Qualifications: This position will plan, administer, manage, or direct the activities of new or ongoing research projects or programs for the Correctional Management Institute of Texas (CMIT) within the College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University. Perform data analysis, literature review, and prepare reports. Plan, coordinate, and supervise assigned research projects or segments of larger research projects. Exercise responsibility for project performance and accountability for progress and personally perform research related activities including review of project related literature, data analysis, and report preparation, for both internal and external use and distribution. May include some supervision or oversight of research assistants assigned to research projects. Coordinate faculty, staff, and correctional practitioners on research projects. Review possibilities for new research initiatives. Work closely with senior staff, faculty, and correctional practitioners on research and program projects.

Position/Rank and Salary: The Department of Criminal Justice is seeking applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2012. Candidates must demonstrate teaching excellence and research potential. The department seeks criminologists to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in criminal justice and criminology. Areas of specialization are open; however, priority will be given to race and ethnic issues in the field, inequality, drug policy, comparative/international criminology, homeland security, and terrorism. The position entails day, evening, online, and accelerated course formats, undergraduate student and graduate student advising; active participation on department, college and university committees; service learning/internship activities; and active involvement in scholarly activities, such as publishing and obtaining grants. Candidates should be able to interact effectively with a wide and diverse range of students including traditional undergraduates and non-traditional, working adults and justice professionals employed in the criminal justice system. We particularly seek candidates who have interests in innovative teaching strategies and who are student oriented.
