The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences is an international association established in 1963 to foster professional and scholarly activities in the field of criminal justice. ACJS promotes criminal justice education, research, and policy analysis within the discipline of criminal justice for both educators and practitioners. Providing a forum for disseminating ideas related to issues in research, policy, education, and practice within the field, ACJS attributes its success in creating this dynamic professional association to the composition of its membership. As change expands the existing boundaries of the criminal justice field, ACJS is comprised of members from a variety of diversified backgrounds including:

Scholars who are international in scope and multidisciplinary in orientation,
Professionals from all sectors of the criminal justice system, and
Students seeking to explore the criminal justice field as future scholars or practitioners.

Through the vital interchange of ideas among these groups, ACJS members develop and share knowledge about critical issues regarding crime, criminal and social justice. ACJS is comprised of an amalgam of scholars (international in scope and multidisciplinary in orientation), professionals (from all segments of the justice system), and students. Our success in creating this dynamic professional association is due to the variety of interest represented in its membership.

A Special Offer for Doctoral Students: Doctoral students in the field of criminal justice can take advantage of a one-year, free membership in ACJS. This opportunity includes the subscriptions and newsletters described below, and can be used at any point during a doctoral program. If you wish to take advantage of this offer, please fill out the Ph.D. Application, attach proof of your student status (either a copy of a student ID, or a departmental letter), and mail or fax to the National Office (address and fax number are provided on the application). The various membership categories and their associated dues are indicated below and on the online signup form. The form can be accessed to view-only, renew or join at https://www.acjs.org/signup. A printable membership application is also available.

REGULAR MEMBERS
Description: Regular membership is open to individuals who support the purposes of the Academy of Criminal Justice Science and individuals designated as a regular member by an institutional member.

Dues: $75/year, $210/3 years, or $350/5 years

Benefits:

Subscription to Justice Quarterly, a quarterly journal devoted to the development of knowledge in the broad area of criminal justice. While the field of criminal justice is the primary focus of Justice Quarterly, scholarship and research in related areas are solicited. The journal provides a multidisciplinary forum for scholars using diverse methodologies to disseminate knowledge and innovations about justice issues and processes.
Subscription to the Journal of Criminal Justice Education, a tri-annual journal devoted to criminal justice education and teaching.
Subscription to the ACJS Employment Bulletin, updated and posted twice a week on our web site at www.acjs.org. It offers a listing of academic, research, and professional employment opportunities in the field.
Subscription to ACJS Today, the official newsletter of the Academy published electronically four times per year. The newsletter provides information about a variety of criminal justice-related issues.
Subscription to ACJS NOW, a newsletter mailed to members two times a year, containing highlights of articles to be published in ACJS journals and ACJS Today, and announcements from the National Office, ACJS sections, and affiliated regional associations.
Professional growth, collegial contact and networking opportunities through participation in the Academy's Annual Meetings.
An employment exchange at the Annual Meeting affords the opportunity to share information and conduct employment interviews.
Book exhibits at the Annual Meeting provide access to new criminal justice publications and publishing companies' representatives.
A membership directory facilitates contacts among researchers, educators and practitioners.

LIFETIME MEMBERS
Description: Lifetime memberships are open to any regular member.

Dues: $1125, or three annual payments of $375. If joining as a Lifetime member online, the only option for payment will be the three annual payments, and your credit card will be charged $375. If you wish to pay the entire amount, please print out the membership application and either fax or mail to the National Office.

STUDENT MEMBERS
Description: Student membership is open to any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at an institution of higher education who supports the purposes of the Academy, whose enrollment is certified by a regular faculty or administrative official of the institution.

Dues: $30/year

INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERS
Description: Institutional membership is available to any institution of higher education offering a bona fide two-year, four-year, or graduate criminal justice degree program or with a criminal justice research institute. Institutional members shall designate one member of their faculty or administration as a regular member. When a university’s organizational system includes multiple campuses, each campus must individually apply for institutional membership if it houses a separately administered program or institute.

Dues: $250/year, $735/3 years, or $1,225/5 years

Benefits:

Only Institutional Members are eligible to apply for ACJS Academic Certification Review.
The Institutional Member’s designated regular member receives a copy of JQ and JCJE for use by their Criminal Justice/Criminology Program; however, these copies are not library subscriptions.
One vote in all ACJS general elections as the regular member.
Eligible to join ACJS sections. The designated regular member will be listed as the member of the section.
Eligible for two free ads in the ACJS Employment Bulletin during the membership year.
Listed as an Institutional Member in the ACJS Annual Program free of charge.
Access to one free use of the ACJS mailing list during the membership year.
The individual designated by the Institution as a regular member has the same benefits as Regular Members.

Description: Sustaining membership is open to any person, company, corporation, or partnership committed to excellence in education and research in the field of criminal justice. Sustaining memberships are open to all other membership categories.

Dues: $150/year
